WILD WEST PICANTE BURGERS

Wild West Picante Burgers image

Steps:

  • Mix the beef and picante sauce thoroughly in a medium bowl. Shape the beef mixture firmly into 4 (1/2-inch thick) burgers.
  • Lightly oil the grill rack and heat the grill to medium. Grill the burgers for 10 minutes or until desired doneness, turning them over once halfway through grilling and brushing often with additional picante sauce.
  • Serve the burgers on the buns with additional picante sauce.
  • Serving Suggestion: Serve with coleslaw or fresh vegetables and ranch dressing for dipping and corn-on-the-cob. For dessert serve sliced watermelon or fresh fruit salad.

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup Pace® Picante Sauce or Pace® Chunky Salsa
4 Pepperidge Farm® Classic Hamburger Buns, split

Steps:

  • Caramelized Onions: Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft and lightly caramelized about 15 minutes. Add the mustard and a pinch of salt and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the onions from the pan to a small bowl and set aside.
  • Special Sauce: In a medium bowl combine all the ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  • Burgers: Preheat the broiler to low.
  • Form the ground meat mixture into 6 equal patties. Do not over handle or compress the patties, keep them loose. This will help create a tender burger. Over mixing and compacting will result in a tough heavy burger.
  • Heat the canola oil a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat.
  • In a small bowl combine the salt, pepper and garlic powder and season the burgers generously with the mixture. Put the patties in the skillet and cook for 4 minutes. Flip and let cook for 1 minute, then top each patty with a piece of cheese. Cook for another 2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burgers are medium.
  • While the burgers are cooking, lightly brush the buns with melted butter and put them on a sheet pan. Broil until lightly toasted, about 2 minutes.
  • To assemble, split the buns and spread each half with about a tablespoon of the special sauce. Put the burgers on the bottom half of each bun, top with caramelized onions, tomato and lettuce. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve.

Steps:

  • Heat broiler.
  • Mix meat and mustard just until blended; shape into 16 (1-1/2-inch) patties. Place on rack of broiling pan sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Broil, 6 inches from heat, 6 to 8 min. or until done (160ºF), turning after 4 min. Top with Singles pieces; broil 1 min. or until melted.
  • Place cheeseburgers on 16 crackers; top with avocados, ketchup, aioli and remaining crackers to make 16 sandwiches.

These hamburgers are so delicious! Absolutely delicious. The sauce is so tangy and spicy, we loved it! I can't tolerate raw onions on my burger, so these carmelized onions were the perfect accompaniment. These touches, along with broiling/toasting the buttered buns made this burger extra special.   • Prepare grill for direct cooking over medium heat (about 400 degrees F). Grill pepper over direct medium heat, with lid closed as much as possible, until black and blistered all over, about 15 minutes, turning occasionally. Place pepper in bowl. Cover with plastic; let steam 10 minutes. Peel skin form pepper; discard. Remove stem and seeds. Roughly chop pepper.
  • In skillet over medium heat, toast almonds 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often. In food processor or blender, combine pepper, almonds, and remaining spread ingredients. Process or blend until completely smooth.
  • Brush onion slices lightly on both sides with olive oil. Grill over direct medium heat, with lid closed as much as possible, until well marked and caramelized, about 10 minutes, turning once. Move onions to a cutting board to cool. Chop about half of the onions very finely (about 1/2 cup). Set remaining slices aside for serving.
  • Increase grill temperature to high (about 500 degrees F), or add additional coals and heat until high heat is reached.
