BEEF TIPS & GRAVY MY WAY

This is an incredibly easy dinner to prepare. The different soups make this dish extra creamy and perfect to serve over rice or pasta. It's really full of flavor. Beef Tips & Gravy My Way image

Steps:

  • 1. Place sliced onions in the bottom of a Crock Pot.
  • 2. Season frozen stew meat with garlic salt and black pepper to taste. Place on top of onions. (I put my stew meat in a quart freezer bag before freezing, so it would fit in my round Crock Pot frozen.)
  • 3. Stir together remaining ingredients, except mushrooms.
  • 4. Pour over meat. Cover. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  • 5. In the last hour, add mushrooms. Cook until mushrooms are done. Serve over wide egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes. We had noodles.

2 lb beef stew meat, frozen
1 pkg dry onion soup mix
2 can(s) cream of mushroom soup, 10.5 oz each
1 can(s) cream of chicken soup, 10.5 oz
1 tsp minced garlic
1 medium onion, sliced medium thickness
1 lb sliced mushrooms
1/2 tsp Herbs de Provence
1/2 tsp celery salt
garlic salt & black pepper, to taste
1 tsp Better than Bouillon beef base
1 c water

It's so easy to make and is just one of those feel good recipes. Sticks to the ribs and warms you up kind of meal. I have a wonderful electric 8 quart dutch oven that I make this in but you can use any kind.

Steps:

  • In large dutch oven place 1/3 cup vegetable oil. get oil hot. Place the flour and all spices into gallon baggie and shake. Then place meat into baggie and shake until coated well. Once oil is nice and hot put garlic into pan and let cook about 1 minute. Then place all beef into dutch oven. Let that cook about 7-10 minutes. You want to get the flour on the beef nice and brown. So stir the beef a couple of times. Then pour in broth and water, sliced onions and peppers. Cover and let boil for 1 hour stirring occasionaly. Then turn down to simmer and let simmer for 1 1/2 hours. when only a half hour left of cooking, slice and toss in the fresh mushrooms. Serve with white rice, potatoes, or even penne pasta!

  • Sear: Season the beef tips generously with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef cubes on all sides. Remove the cubes from the pot and set them aside. Add the butter to the pot, let it melt, then add the onion. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until softened and translucent.
  • Mix: Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then sprinkle the flour into the pot. Stir well and cook for another minute or two. Pour the beef broth into the pot and whisk the mixture well. Then, add the soy sauce, Worcestershire, thyme, bay leaf, and seared beef.
  • Cook: Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Let it simmer for 30 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened and the beef is tender. Stir occasionally.
  • Finish: Remove the thyme sprigs and bay leaf. Taste for salt and pepper, then garnish with parsley and serve.
