BRAZILIAN MARTINI

I found this recipe on the Food Network site. It was first featured in a 2008 episode of Guy Fieri's show Guy's Big Bite, in an episode titled Stylin Steak. I thought the cocktail was really good, and I hope you enjoy it, too. The ingredient list includes Cachaca, a Brazilian rum-like liqueur (which is what I use). But in the directions, it doesn't mention when to add cachaca but does include rum. So I think if you don't have Cachaca on hand, you can use rum instead. It might not have the exact same flavor as Cachaca, but it would probably be an acceptable substitute in a pinch.

  • Pour sugar into a 3-quart saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Cook while stirring gently until the sugar melts and turns golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully and slowly pour in the water, stirring to dissolve the caramel. Add the ginger, lime, and cinnamon; bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Pour in the cachaca, and cook until hot, about 5 minutes more. Strain before serving.
