Steps:

  • Saute ground beef in a soup pot over medium high heat until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add canned cheese soup and water and bring to a very gentle simmer. Add the cheese with jalapeno peppers, and stir until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in beans and salsa and bring back to a simmer. Cut off tops of each loaf of bread, and reserve for later. Carefully hollow out center of each loaf leaving 1 1/2-inch shell. Spoon soup into hollowed out bread, allowing some to spill over top of bread cauldron as if bubbling, and replace top of the loaf. Serve hot.

1 pound ground beef
1 can cheese soup with 1/2 can of water
1 (16-ounce) package processed cheese with jalapeno peppers
1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, well drained
1 (15-ounce) can black beans, well drained
1 cup medium or hot salsa
6 medium individual rounds dark rye bread, unsliced

CAULDRON DIP

This witch's cauldron doesn't hold a spooky brew--just a Halloween snack that's frightfully fun! Our Test Kitchen formed a pot by toasting a slice of rye bread, then filled it with a creamy dip that's perfect with the pretzel "logs" and sweet pepper "flames" that are placed underneath.

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 4 cups all-purpose flour, rey flour, yeast, salt and cocoa. Heat water, molasses and oil to 120 degrees F-130 degrees F. Add to dry ingredients; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining all-purpose flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into eight portions; shape each into a ball. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 20 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cut the top fourth off each roll; carefully hollow out bottom, leaving a 1/4-in. shell (discard removed bread or save for another use). Fill each bowl with about 1/2 cup chili. Serve bread tops on the side if desired.

Steps:

  • Using a Bosch or Kitchen Aid mixer, put yeast, sugar, salt, hot water, and olive oil in the mixer.
  • Gradually add the flour until the dough has sufficiently scraped everything off the sides of the mixing bowl. Continue to mix on low for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove and cover with plastic wrap - let the dough rise until doubles in size (about 30 minutes).
  • Grease 2 cookie sheets and sprinkle with corn meal.
  • Punch down the dough and make tennis ball-size dough balls (about 8-12, depending on how large you want your bread bowls).
  • Place on cookie sheet with no more than 6 to a cookie sheet (don't let them touch). Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake each cookie sheet at 400 for 18 minutes.

2 tablespoons yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 tablespoon salt
2 cups hot water (not boiling)
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 -5 cups flour
cornmeal (optional)

WHAT DO YOU COOK IN A CAULDRON? - OUR EVERYDAY LIFE
The thick, heavy casing of a cauldron nurtures and dissipates heat more effectively than thinner stainless steel pots, making the cauldron an ideal vessel for slow-cook stews and soups. Use the cauldron, therefore, to slow braise tougher meat cuts such as beef chuck, flank and brisket, where the tissues and sinew need plenty of time to become tender. Lamb and goat meat also …

THE SPECIALTY DRINKS, MEALS, AND DESSERTS OF DIAGON ALLEY
Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice – $5.49. Otter’s Fizzing Orange Juice is perhaps the surprise hit of Diagon Alley’s beverages. The orange flavors and delicate fizzy carbonation, with cinnamon sugar on the rim, make for a zingy combination. While its flavors are a little heavier than, say, the Lemon Squash, it is still a very refreshing drink.
