CHEDDAR CHEESE FONDUE RECIPE

Making a Cheddar Cheese Fondue recipe isn't as easy as melting a brick of cheddar. But it's not hard, either. Try this fondue recipe and see for yourself.

Steps:

  • Bring broth to boil in medium saucepan. Meanwhile, mix cornstarch and mustard until blended.
  • Whisk mustard mixture into broth. Stir in cheese; cook on medium heat 10 min. or until cheese is melted and sauce is well blended, stirring constantly.

Steps:

  • Put the brie, cream cheese, gruyère, half the parmesan, the milk and cornflour into a food processor, and blitz until smooth. Stir through the thyme and a little black pepper. Spoon the chutney into an ovenproof baking dish (ours was 15cm round) and spread it over the base. Top with the cheese mixture, spread to cover the chutney, then scatter over the remaining parmesan. It can now be covered with cling film and chilled for up to 3 days.
  • Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Put the baking dish on a baking tray and cook for 25 mins until bubbling. Turn the grill to a medium-high setting and grill for 2-3 mins or until golden brown and crispy on top. Remove from the oven and leave to cool for 5 mins before serving with crusty bread for dunking.

Steps:

  • Mix cheeses with flour.
  • Heat beer in fondue pot until steaming.
  • Add Worcestershire, garlic, mustard and pepper; mix well.
  • Add cheese and stir until melted.
  • Use chunks of bread, veggies and apples for dipping in cheese mixture.

8 ounces swiss cheese, shredded (mild Irish swiss works best)
4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup flour
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 teaspoon mustard powder

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter; stir in flour, salt if desired, mustard, pepper and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat. Add the cheese; cook and stir until cheese is melted. , Transfer to a fondue pot or 1-1/2-qt. slow cooker; keep warm. Serve with bread, ham, sausage and/or broccoli.

Cheese Fondue Melting Pot Cheddar with Beer Recipe - (3.9/5) image

Steps:

  • If you are using an electric fondue pot, turn it onto medium; otherwise use a double boiler to heat up this mixture. Place beer, garlic, dry mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in the pot and combine well. Shred or cube the cheeses and toss with flour, coating the cheese well. (The flour will help thicken the sauce.) When the beer mixture is warm, add one-third of the cheese and whisk very well. Once the cheese has been incorporated well, add half of the remaining cheese and whisk in very well. Add the remaining cheese and whisk until nice and smooth. Cooks notes: If you do not wish to make this with beer, I cannot give you a suggestion for the beer other than a product like O'Doul's or a near-beer with less than 3.2 percent alcohol. The beer flavor really adds a lot to this dish. Please do not serve this dish to people who do not drink alcohol. Alcohol really doesn't fully cook out of the food. The Melting Pot uses vegetable broth in place of beer for those that do not want alcohol. It is just as good as with the beer.

1/2 cup Coors Light beer
2 teaspoons garlic, chopped
2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
6 ounces medium-sharp cheddar cheese
2 ounces Emmentaler Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
I used half the beer and substituted milk for rest and used all cheddar, no Swiss. Ended up adding lots more milk to thin it so it was not sticky and stringy.

  • Rub inside of heavy pot or saucepan with cut sides of garlic, then discard the garlic. Add beer and bring to a simmer over moderate heat.
  • Coat the grated cheese with the cornstarch. Gradually add cheese to pot and cook, stirring constantly in a zigzag pattern to prevent cheese from balling up. Do this until cheese is just melted and creamy, but do not let boil.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard and ground nutmeg. Bring fondue to a simmer and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 5-8 minutes. Do not overcook or fondue will get stringy. Transfer to a fondue pot set over a flame.
