COOKED CABBAGE

No cabbage smell, I swear. This isn't sauerkraut. People in my family who won't walk in the same room because they heard you were cooking cabbage, will sit down and eat with other foods.

Steps:

  • Shred cabbage like for slaw.
  • Soak in cold water until all is shredded.
  • Take 1 1/2 quart pot, heat up bacon drippings.
  • Add cabbage, shaking off excess water.
  • Pot will be full.
  • Salt and pepper to your taste.
  • Cover with lid.
  • Stir a couple of times.
  • Cook 5-10 minutes.

1/2 head cabbage
2 -3 tablespoons bacon drippings
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Cut cabbage in 1 inch by 3 inch pieces. Peel potatoes and cut into quarters.
  • In a large saucepan bring water, bacon drippings, salt and pepper to a boil. Place cabbage and potatoes into water and simmer on low heat until cabbage and potatoes test done with the prick of a fork.
  • To serve use a slotted spoon to lift out cabbage and potatoes.

1/2 medium cabbage, sliced, chopped
2 medium potatoes, quartered
4 cups water
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
1 teaspoon salt
