TURKEY DRUMSTICKS IN THE CROCK POT

The grocery here often has fresh turkey legs and they're very inexpensive. I make this recipe using 4 or 6, however many happen to be in the package. I then take the meat off the bone and use it in recipes that call for cooked chicken or turkey.

Steps:

  • Place turkey legs in Crock pot. Sprinkle with onion soup mix. Add 1/4 cup water.
  • Cook on low 9-10 hours until done.
  • Juice can be thickened with flour or cornstarch for gravy.

Steps:

  • Wash the turkey legs, and shake off excess moisture. Sprinkle each turkey leg with about 1/2 teaspoon of poultry seasoning, salt, and black pepper to taste. Wrap the leg tightly in aluminum foil. Repeat with remaining legs.
  • Place the wrapped turkey legs into a slow cooker with no liquids or other ingredients. Set the cooker to Low, and cook until the meat is very tender, 7 to 8 hours.

Steps:

  • Pour water into the crock pot. On a dinner plate, mix the rub ingredients. Rub the turkey legs all over with soft butter or olive oil. Roll the turkey legs in the rub mix and place them in the slow cooker. Turn the heat to low if you want to cook for 7-8 hours or medium if you want to cook them for 3-4 hours. The larger legs will take longer. DO NOT put heat on high. They will dry out quickly and will be ruined.

  • Mix poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper together in a bowl. Rub on turkey legs. Refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
