- In 3 1/2 or 4-quart crock pot, combine potatoes, carrots and onion.
- In medium bowl, combine brown sugar, mustard, and caraway seed; mix well.
- Stir in sauerkraut and kielbasa. Spoon sauerkraut mixture over vegetables in cooker.
- Cover; cook on low setting for at least 8 hours or until vegetables are tender.

The faculty where DH teaches has frequent potlucks. Lois often brings this tasty dish and it is always well received. It is also an easy work/school week supper that my family enjoys.

- In a skillet, melt butter, saute onions and apples until onions are translucent.
- Meanwhile rinse and drain sauerkraut; place in a large crock pot.
- Stir ketchup, dill and onion-apple mixture into sauerkraut.
- Slice Kielbasa into 2-inch rounds.
- Stir Kielbasa into sauerkraut.
- Cook on low setting for 7-9 hours. (Cooking time may vary based on the brand and age of your crock pot. I still use an old one that takes 7-9 hours for cooking this recipe.).

- In a medium bowl, combine the sauerkraut and brown sugar. then place in slow cooker. Arrange the sausage and onion over the sauerkraut.
- Cook on high for two hours, check for dryness, adding some water if necessary, then reduce to low setting, and cook on low for two more hours.

I've made a few changes from the way mom made this... I remember coming home from school & smelling the sauerkraut cooking. My brother and I would get more excited about the kraut than if we came home to find fresh baked cookies! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The best thing about this is that it keeps pretty well & is always better the 2nd day.

- In a large crock pot, add all ingredients. It will be difficult to stir at first, but as it cooks down, it will become easier. It's best if it's cooked on low over for at least 8 hours.
- It does well reheated in the microwave and for leftovers for the next few days if you have any :).

- Heat margarine in large pot over medium heat; add onions and saute until they are tender.
- Add sauerkraut, apple juice, water, caraway seed, salt, pepper, and brown sugar, mixing all ingredients thoroughly.
- Bring pot mixture to a boil; then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add smoked sausage pieces to pot, and cook for 30-45 minutes more, simmering, and stirring occasionally, until sauerkraut is tender.

- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook pork chops until browned, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- Combine sauerkraut, potatoes, apples, carrots, onion, red wine, cinnamon, bay leaf, and black pepper in a slow cooker. Add the browned pork chop. Pour 1 tablespoon water into the skillet, scrape up the glaze, and transfer to the slow cooker.

- In a colander over the sink, drain then rinse the sauerkraut well with cool water, allow to drain for 5 to 10 minutes; repeat at least once.
- While sauerkraut is draining, cut the bacon into small pieces then in a large pan over medium heat, fry bacon until crisp.
- While bacon is cooking, cut up the apple (s), pear (if using), onion, celery, and sausage.
- When the bacon is done, remove the cooked bacon from the pan and set aside; add olive oil and butter to bacon drippings and let butter melt.
- Sprinkle the flour into the dripping mixture while stirring and cook until golden and bubbly, then add the brown sugar, garlic, and Dijon and cook for another minute, then gradually stir in the hard cider and cook- seasoning to taste with salt and pepper- until the sauce thickens, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Combine all prepared ingredients- drained/rinsed sauerkraut, chopped fruits/vegetables, bacon, sausage, and sauce- in a large crock pot (or 2 smaller ones) and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 to 8 hours.
- This makes a very large batch, serving about 16 to 18 people as a main dish- good for big potlucks!

This is a recipe from a sweet old German lady I used to attend church with. Allow for plenty of time to prepare and cook this dish. It is definitely worth the time and effort! Serve with hot German potato salad and red cabbage.

- Place the sauerkraut, caraway seeds, brown sugar, and apple into a large saucepan over medium-low heat, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, and cook for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Place the bacon and onion into a skillet over medium heat, and cook until the bacon is almost crisp and the onion is beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Stir the bacon mixture into the sauerkraut. In the same skillet, brown the kielbasa sausage in the remaining bacon grease until the sausage begins to brown, 10 to 15 minutes; stir into the sauerkraut mixture. Spoon the sauerkraut and sausage mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven until bubbling, about 1 hour.
