APPLE SLICES BROWN BETTY
Sliced tart apples are layered with spiced bread crumbs and brown sugar, and topped with butter and applesauce, in this easy baked dessert.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and cloves. Place half of the sliced apples in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with half the bread crumb mixture. Repeat layers. Pour melted butter over all and cover with applesauce. Combine remaining cinnamon with white sugar and sprinkle on top.
- Bake in preheated oven 1 hour, until apples are tender and mixture is bubbly.

- Melt butter in a large cast-iron or other ovenproof skillet. Add apples and 1/2 cup sugar; stir to mix well. Cover and cook over low heat for 20 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring frequently. , Add cinnamon and remaining sugar. Cook and stir over medium-high heat 5-10 minutes longer. If desired, serve with ice cream.

- Heat 2 tablespoons margarine in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add apple slices and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
- Cook the apples for 5 minutes, turning frequently with a spatula.
- Add bread squares and turn heat to medium low. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Place apple and bread slices on serving platter and top with remaining margarine.

STELLA'S WHITE BREAD APPLE PIE
I just had to share this recipe...I was invited to dinner this evening and was served Apple Pie made with sliced white bread for dessert. It was really good, I would never have believed it was bread as the crust!! It is something I would make for a family dessert in a pinch!! Try it, it's really different but good! I looked on 'Zaar but didn't see anything like it.

- Combine the 1 1/2 cups sugar, cinnamon, beaten egg, flour and melted butter. Pour over the bread slices.
- Bake at 350* for 40-45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crust is browned.
