Hap Towne's Stewed Raisins image

Steps:

  • 1. Place raisins in a heavy saucepan.
  • 2. Barely cover with water and bring to a boil over high heat.
  • 3. Turn heat down to medium and cook until water is below first row of raisins.
  • 4. Add butter, stirring until melted. Mix flour and sugar and add to raisins.
  • 5. Cook 2 minutes more, stirring. (If watery, bring back to a boil; if stiff, add water).

2 -4 tablespoons lemon juice

I like to serve this sweet/tart side dish with a plain, grilled meat, and a green salad. I personally add less sugar - closer to 1/2 of a cup, but wanted to submit the recipe in its original form.

Steps:

  • Place tomatoes in a large saucepan. Tear toast into about 4 pieces per slice; add to tomatoes. Add butter and sugar. Simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve warm.
