Steps:

  • Empty cans of beans into a large crock pot. Do not drain juice. Add Manwich, brown sugar, ketchup, and barbecue sauce. Stir together.

  • Fry bacon separately and crumble into small pieces.

Steps:

  • Cook together ground beef and onion until done.
  • Drain off any grease from ground beef and onion mixture (I always use a colander for this and sometimes I even rinse my ground beef with hot water to make it more lean and to take the grease off better.) After meat mixture is drained add all ingredients to large pan or crockpot and mix well.
  • Simmer 45 minutes on stove or cook for 4 hours in crockpot.

2 lbs ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 can lima beans, drained
1 can green beans, drained
1 can pork and beans
1 can Rotel Tomatoes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon mustard (I always add more mustard because I love mustard)

HOMESTEAD COWBOY BEANS

I have an enormous family and all of the men go trail riding several times a year and these beans are one of the things they look forward to. My aunts and I put together their favorite combination several years ago, and have it ready at their camp, and they are some happy cowboys! You can mix different beans to your liking (lima, kidney, etc.), but the boys in our family like this mixture the best.

CROCK POT HOBO BEANS FROM SCRATCH (OAMC)

I can't really take much of the credit for this recipe. It's just the result of ideas I've purloined over the years. When I take it to a potluck I've learned to have a half dozen copies of the recipe with me. I freeze it one cup at a time in sandwich size zip lock bags. It reheats quite well.

  • Place patty in the middle of a piece of aluminum foil. (make foil big enough to come back up to the middle of the patty and to go around the veggies).
  • Sprinkle with garlic salt or garlic powder and pepper.
  • Stack veggies on top of burger patty, starting with potatoes.
  • Follow by onion slices.
  • Follow with carrots and green beans.
  • Pull foil up to middle and gather at the top and twist closed. (try to make sure no areas are open on the side for easier clean-up).
