Homemade Failsafe Margarine image

Steps:

  • Pour a little of the water into a blender, then add oil and the liquid lecithin.
  • Blend briefly on high speed while adding the rest of the water.
  • Store in refrigerator and use within 2-3 weeks.
  • Variation: for a very rich cream substitute, add 1 tbsp maple syrup and 2 tsp carob powder.

1 teaspoon liquid lecithin
1 cup cold water

Yummy squares of puffed rice with butter and golden syrup. My daughter has eczema so is eating FAILSAFE at the moment (see www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info.au) and I modified this recipe off the Abundant Earth website to suit.

Failsafe

Steps:

  • Melt butter or margarine in a large saucepan, stir in syrup, brown sugar and carob powder.
  • Bring to the boil for 3 minutes, then remove from stove and add the vanilla essence.
  • Place the puffed rice in a large greased swiss roll pan (10x12inch). Pour mixture over the cereal and mix well. Spread smooth and pat firm.
  • Chill until firm.

  • Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Mix egg, water, and vinegar together in a separate bowl. Pour into flour all at once and blend with a fork until dough forms into a ball. Divide into 3 equal-sized rounds.
  • Wrap with plastic and chill in a refrigerator until ready to prepare.

Steps:

  • Place chicken in oven bag and roast until cooked approximately 1 ½ hours.
  • Peel potatoes and cut into quarters, add a dash of salt and cook until tender, approximately 15-20 minutes Mash together with milk and margarine.
  • Place peas in pot and cover with water, add a dash of salt and cook for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Cut chicken into 4-6 pieces and serve with mash and peas.
