BEST CHEESE BREAD

My husband and I often make a meal of bread and salad. We enjoy the garlic, dill and cheddar flavors in this savory bread. We think it's best served fresh from the oven.

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, cheese, baking powder, garlic powder and dill. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, oil and honey. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. , Pour into a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (top will have an uneven appearance). Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F.
  • Combine all ingredients except bread.
  • Cut bread into 3/4-inch-thick slices, being carefully not to cut all the way through to bottom of loaf. Spread 1 side of each bread slice with cheese mixture. Wrap in foil.
  • Bake 25 min. Serve warm.

Steps:

  • In a small skillet, saute peppers in 1 tablespoon oil for 15 minutes or until tender; set aside. , In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water; let stand for 5 minutes. In a large saucepan, heat the milk, honey, salt and remaining oil to 110°-115°. Remove from the heat; stir in the cheese. Stir in 2 eggs and reserved peppers; add to yeast mixture. Add 2 cups flour and wheat germ; beat until smooth. Sir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Do not knead. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. , Punch dough down; spoon into two greased 8x4-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour. , Beat water and remaining egg; brush over loaves. Bake at 375° for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400F.
  • Grease a round pan, 8 x 1 1/2 inches.
  • Blend egg, milk and baking mix with fork to form soft dough.
  • Stir in half of the cheese.
  • Spread dough in the pan.
  • Sprinkle remaining cheese and poppy seeds over the top.
  • Drizle with margarine.
  • Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 20-25 minutes.
  • Cut into wedges and serve immediately.
