Southern-Style Chocolate Gravy image

Steps:

  • Whisk the cocoa, flour, and sugar together in a bowl until there are no lumps. Pour the milk into the mixture and whisk until well incorporated. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until its consistency is similar to gravy, 7 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir the butter and vanilla into the mixture until the butter is melted. Serve immediately.

One if the best things about going to grandmas house was waking up to Cocoa and Bisquits, she called it black gravy. My children love it and request it often. It is Chocolate gravy on bisquits. I usually double the recipe, and top mine with extra butter. When I was small I didn't want the bisquits, just a bowl of cocoa.

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt and cocoa in saucepan.
  • Stir in milk stirring until it boils.
  • Boil for 1 minute (until it starts to thicken).
  • Remove from heat and stir in butter.
  • Serve over hot bisquits.
