NEIMAN MARCUS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE

This is the famous Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. There has been a myth that someone was charged $250 for the recipe, but that was never true. This is now their official cookie recipe, and it's free to everyone.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet.
  • In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and espresso powder; stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet. Cookies should be 1 1/2 to 2 inches apart. You should have 12 to 15 large cookies.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. For crispier cookies, bake 2 minutes longer. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.

  • Mix: 1 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar - Add to above mixture: 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla - Add (not all at once): 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/2 cups oats (powdered in blender) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon soda - Add last: 12 ounces chocolate chips 4 ounces melted Hershey Bar 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans - Drop (golf ball size) on ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake at 375deg for 8 minutes. Cookies will not appear done. - NOTE: Iris bakes these cookies using 1 tablespoon vanilla, 1 1/2 cups oatmeal, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and the Hershey bar grated. She rolls the dough into balls and places 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet and bakes for 6 minutes.

The Real Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe image

Steps:

  • Cream the butter with the sugars until fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract.
  • Combine the dry ingredients and beat into the butter mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Form large round patty's 1/4 inch thick. Place onto a greased or parchment lined cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes for soft & chewy, or 10 to 12 minutes for crispier cookies.
  • Romove from oven and allow cookies to set for an additional 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack for cooling.
  • *Be sure to use Rumford Baking Powder- (It's aluminum free and doesn't have the bitter taste found in other brands).
  • Because the batter is so thick they do not work well as small cookies (smaller cookies can get too hard). If desired drop large spoonfuls of dough directly onto cookie sheet, then form dough to correct size and shape.
  • Stick to 8 minutes in the oven, this cookie remains chewy even after it cools. For crispier cookies Bake 1-4 minutes longer.
  • Don't forget the coffee or the cookie will taste too sweet. Using a clean pill crusher to get the Instant expresso to the right consistency, works perfect.

Almost everybody has heard the one about the woman lunching at the Neiman Marcus Cafe in Dallas, who enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies so much that she asked for the recipe. For "only two-fifty," the waitress said, it was hers. But when the credit card bill arrived, the woman found the total near $300. Turns out the recipe cost $250, the story goes. In 1997, after years of enduring the myth, Neiman Marcus came up with a recipe - and gave it out for free. It's a delicious variation on chocolate chip cookies, using ground oatmeal, nuts and adding extra chocolate with a grated Hershey bar (you can use any brand you love).
