Melon and mint are a natural pairing in this bright and summery Spanish sip that will take the edge off those hot nights.

Melon-Mint Sangria image

Steps:

  • With a large melon baller, scoop flesh from honeydew melon into a pitcher or large bowl. Add watermelon, cantaloupe, mint leaves, and white wine. Stir to combine and refrigerate 1 hour (or up to overnight). To serve, add ginger ale and ice.

1 pound seedless watermelon, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 pound cantaloupe, peeled, seeded, and thinly sliced
1 cup fresh mint leaves
1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
1 liter chilled ginger ale

Watermelon Sangria image

Steps:

  • Place 9 cups of watermelon cubes in a blender; blend on high until very smooth. Strain juice through a mesh strainer into a large pitcher. Pour the wine, vodka, triple sec, and simple syrup into the pitcher. Stir to combine. Mix the remaining 3 cups of watermelon cubes, the lime quarters, orange sections, and blueberries into the sangria. Chill for 4 hours before serving.

Steps:

  • Add the melon, ice, mint, ginger ale, and sugar to a blender. Pulse until the mixture becomes slushy. Pour into 4 glasses and serve immediately.

Summer Melon Sangria image

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a pitcher, and stir, crushing some of the fruit with a spoon.
  • Cover, and refrigerate for at least 12 hours or overnight to let the flavors marry before serving.
  • Use within 4 days of making (like this would be a problem!).
  • Serve over ice, including some of the fruit.

3 teaspoons Midori melon liqueur

WHITE MELON SANGRIA

Even though it seems a contradiction for a sangria to be made with white wine (since sangria is named for its blood-red color), once you've tasted this festive thirst quencher it won't matter a bit! White Melon Sangria image

Steps:

  • Stir melon and sugar together in a large pitcher. Let stand for 15 to 30 minutes to draw out the juices.
  • Just before serving, stir wine, brandy, Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur) and sparkling water (or club soda) into the pitcher.
  • Add ice cubes to 6 glasses.
  • Fill the glasses with sangria, spooning some of the fruit into each glass.
  • Garnish each drink with a slice of lime (or starfruit) and a sprig of mint.
  • MAKE AHEAD TIP: prepare through Step 1, cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day. Finish with Step 2 just before serving.

1 1/2 cups melon, pieces (mixed colorful bite-size melon pieces, such as cantaloupe, honeydew, Ogen or Charentais)
1/3 cup sugar
1 (750 ml) bottle crisp white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or 1 (750 ml) bottle pinot grigio wine
1/4 cup brandy
2 tablespoons triple sec or 2 tablespoons other orange-flavored liqueur

  • Make the simple syrup by combining ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and then remove from the heat and allow to cool 10 minutes. Strain out the mint leaves and store in a glass container in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  • To juice the watermelon: Place the cubed watermelon in a food processor or blender and pulse until you have a smooth puree. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp from the juice.
  • Place the watermelon juice, wine, rum, and juice of one lime into a large pitcher. Add simple syrup to taste. Refrigerate at least an hour, then garnish the pitcher with lime wedges and mint leaves and serve.
