- In a 3-qt. slow cooker, layer mushrooms and onion. Combine butter and salad dressing mix; pour over vegetables. Cover and cook on low until vegetables are tender, 4-5 hours. Serve with a slotted spoon.

Steps:
- Begin preparing the sauteed mushrooms as directed. While mushrooms are cooking, bring a large pot of water to a boil for the tagliatelle pasta. When the water has come to a boil, add salt and the pasta.
- While pasta is cooking, add a splash of white wine to the sauteed mushrooms and let simmer for 1 minute. Add cream and grated cheese and bring to a simmer. Remove pan from heat. When pasta has reached desired consistency, add to pan of mushrooms and stir. Serve warm with extra cheese for grating.
MUSHROOMS AND ALIOLI TAPAS
Posted for ZWT 5. I have not tried this recipe yet, but I know I love mushrooms and garlic! Zaar would not let me use Alioli as an ingredient, it has a consistency of mayonaise, is heavily garlic flavored, but does not contain eggs. There is at least one recipe on Zaar for Alioli.

Steps:
- Heat olive oil in pan. When the oil is hot, add the mushrooms, salt and sharry. Cover, and lower heat. Cook until liquid is released from mushrooms, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Toast bread slightly, just to dry it out a bit.
- Spread toast with alioli and top with mushrooms.
- Broil for about 30 seconds or until alioli starts to bubble.
- Serve warm.
MUSHROOM MASALA
A decadent and complex mushroom masala. Serve with rice or roti or in a bao with something crunchy for texture and something pickled as contrast.

Steps:
- Blend tomato, onion, garlic, ginger, and cashews in a food processor until smooth.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and bay leaf; cook until oil is infused, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove and discard cinnamon, cardamom, and bay leaf. Add tomato mixture (masala) and cook down, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in garam masala, paprika, and salt.
- Mix in mushrooms and cook for 5 to 7 minutes; if mixture gets too thick, add water. Add coconut milk and cook until heated through, 2 to 3 minutes.

MARINATED MUSHROOMS ANTIPASTO
These mushrooms would be a good addition to an antipasto platter. For the most flavor, let them marinate overnight.

- In a medium saucepan, bring water, olive oil, white-wine vinegar, garlic, thyme, salt, and ground pepper to a boil. Add mushrooms; stir to coat.
- Cover; simmer over low heat until mushrooms are tender and have released their liquid, 5 to 8 minutes. Remove mushrooms with a slotted spoon to a bowl; reserve.
- Return liquid to a boil; cook until reduced to 1/4 cup, 3 to 4 minutes. Pour over mushrooms. Refrigerate until completely chilled; serve.
MUSHROOMS, LATVIAN STYLE
Steps:
- Wash the mushrooms, and cut into thin slices.
- Dice the bacon, and fry until lightly browned in a 12-inch skillet.
- Dice the onion, and add to the bacon.
- Fry the mixture, stirring, until the onion is just wilted. Add the mushrooms.
- Over low heat, stir with a spoon for 10 minutes.
- Add flour, water and salt.
- Bring water to boil, and boil for 5 minutes until the mixture has the consistency of gravy.
- Add the sour cream. Stir until well blended.

MARINATED MUSHROOMS FOR ANTIPASTO
Marinated mushrooms are one of my favorite Italian antipasti. They are easy to make and all you need is some crusty bread to eat with them. They also taste good as a side for raclette.

- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add mushrooms and cook until softened, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside to cool.
- Combine olive oil, white wine vinegar, red onion, oregano, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper in a large jar with a lid. Close jar and shake well. Add cooked mushrooms and refrigerate at least 5 hours. Remove from refrigerator 10 minutes prior to serving.

MUSHROOMS A LA GRECQUE
A classic mushroom dish which can be served as one of several mezze dishes, or served with crusty rolls or pita bread and a favourite dip for lunch. It's served cold, and will appeal to mushroom lovers! I've adapted it from a recipe in 'Mediteranean Kitchen', and I'm posting it for the 2005 Zaar World Tour.

Steps:
- Cut a cross on the base of the tomatoes, immerse them in boiling water for 20-30 seconds, then plunge them into cold water; drain and peel the skin away from the cross and, discarding the juice the and seeds (see notes below), finely chop the tomatoes.
- Place the tomatoes, oil, wine, onion, garlic, bay leaf, thyme and basil to a non-aluminium pan, add about 1 cup of water and bring to the boil; then cover and simmer for 10 minutes; then uncover the pan, add the mushrooms and simmer for a further 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Lift out the mushroom with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a serving dish.
- Boil the cooking liquid rapidly until about 1 cup remains, remove the bay leaf, add the lemon juice and season with salt, pepper and sugar, to taste.
- Pour the liquid over the mushrooms, and leave the mushrooms to cool.
- Serve the mushrooms cold, sprinkled with the chopped parsley and the walnuts.
- Notes: Rather than wasting such juices or vegetable peelings, I add them to my container of ingredients for when I next make my Vegetable Stock Recipe #135453.
