ASIAN SKILLET SUPPER

Amid the flurry of holiday happenings, you can still gift yourself with a personalized serving of steak. From Titonka, Iowa. Dona Shroyer shares this colorful combination of cubed steak, vegetables and rice--a quick and simple meal.

Asian Skillet Supper image

Steps:

  • In a small skillet, stir-fry the steak in oil for 4 minutes or until no longer pink. Remove steak and keep warm. Stir-fry green pepper and celery until crisp-tender. Combine cornstarch, water, soy sauce, sugar and salt until smooth; add to the skillet. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 1 minute or until thickened. Add steak and tomato to skillet; heat through. Serve over rice.

4 ounces beef cube steaks, cut into strips
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup julienned green pepper
2 tablespoons chopped celery
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
4 teaspoons soy sauce

1 small tomato, cut into wedges

Steps:

  • Brown meat in large skillet.
  • drain.
  • Add water and 1 of the seasoning packs, stir fry sauce, and frozen veggies.
  • Mix well.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low cover and cook for 5 minutes or until veggies are tender.
  • Break up the noodles and add to the skillet.
  • Cover, cook 5 to 8 minutes or until sauce is as thick as you like it. stir occasionally separating noodles.
  • Any stir fry or mixed type veggies that you like can be substituted.

Hamburger Skillet Supper image

Steps:

  • In a skillet, cook beef until no longer pink; drain.
  • Add noodles with contents of seasoning packet and water.
  • Bring to a boil; cook for 3 minutes or until noodles are tender.
  • Add the veggies and cook until tender, about 3 minutes as well.
  • Makes about 4 servings.
  • Here is another way to do it: Cook the beef as stated previously. During this time, heat up a saucepan of water to cook the ramen noodles in. Rather than just using 1 packet, use 2 packets of the beef flavor ramen noodles. When cooking the noodles, cook them without the flavoring. During this time, (after you drain the ground beef) add the veggies to the meat and continue to cook. As the veggies become cooked, add the two packets of flavoring to the beef-veggie mixture. The ramen noodles don't take long to cook, so be sure to watch them. When they are done, drain them, and add them to the beef-veggie mixture. The completed dish will have more flavor, and more noodles for the noodle lovers! Enjoy!

1 lb ground beef
1 (3 ounce) package ramen noodles (I prefer beef flavor)
2 cups water
2 cups vegetables (frozen mixed veggies, thawed; peas and corn work perfect!)

Steps:

  • Cook rice with two cups of water and 1/4 tsp ginger.
  • In heavy skillet, cook peppers and celery in oil until crisp and tender. Remove and set aside.
  • Add meat. Brown quickly.
  • Combine water, soy sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and salt. Add to skillet and cook until thickened.
  • Stir in reserved peppers and celery along with tomato wedges. Heat through.
  • Serve over ginger rice.

Steps:

  • In large skillet, brown beef with onion over medium-high heat.
  • Drain fat.
  • Add broth; bring to boil.
  • Stir in pasta.
  • Return to boil and simmer, covered, 8 minutes.

  • Return to boil.
