PATRIOTIC DUMP CAKE

An extremely easy recipe. Simply dump all the ingredients in and bake. Don't fret, it still tastes good.

  • In a 9x12" greased pan, layer the ingredients in the order listed.
  • Bake at 325F for 45 minutes.

1 1/2 cups cherry pie filling
1 cup fresh blueberries
19 ounces white cake mix
1 cup melted butter
1 cup chopped nuts

Pledge allegiance to a Patriotic Quilt 'Cake' from My Food and Family! With a blanket of fresh strawberries and blueberries on top, this Patriotic Quilt 'cake' is certainly a real crowd pleaser. You're sure to hear plenty of 'oohs' and 'aahs' when you serve this pretty patriotic cake!

Patriotic Quilt 'Cake' image

Steps:

  • Stir boiling water into gelatin mixes in large bowl 2 min. until completely dissolved. Add enough ice to cold water to measure 2 cups. Add to gelatin; stir until ice is completely melted. Refrigerate 20 min. or until gelatin is slightly thickened.
  • Meanwhile, line bottom of 13x9-inch baking dish with cake slices. Add 1 cup of the strawberries and 1 cup of the blueberries to thickened gelatin; stir gently. Spoon over cake slices. Refrigerate 4 hours or until firm.
  • Whisk Neufchatel and sugar in large bowl until blended; stir in 2-1/2 cups COOL WHIP. Spread over gelatin. Arrange remaining strawberries and remaining 1/2 cup blueberries on Neufchatel mixture to resemble the squares of a quilt. Pipe remaining whipped topping around squares.

  • When cake is completely cooled after baking, mix together the first jello package with 1 cup boiling water, then stir in 1/2 c. cold water. Jell-o mix needs to remain in liquid form for dispensing so don't refrigerate before adding to cake.
  • Make a bunch of holes in the cake using the handle end of a butter knife. Using a child's medicine dispenser, add about 1 to 2 tsp of Jello into every other hole. (see picture above)

Stop the mixer and stir in the sour cream, vanilla, lemon peel and the powdered sugar. Turn the mixer back on and beat for another minute. it should be smooth and creamy. Grab the tub of whipped topping and fold it into the cream cheese mixture. Mixture will be light and fluffy. Set aside.
  • Remove angel food cake from package. On a flat surface, use a bread knife to slice cake horizontally into three even layers. Transfer bottom layer onto a serving plate.
  • Spread 1/3 of the cream cheese mixture onto cake layer. Place 1/3 of the strawberries, blueberries and raspberries on top of cream cheese mixture. Add the second cake layer on top of the first and repeat the steps.
  • Place the top layer back on the cake, spread with remaining cream cheese mixture and garnish with remaining berries.
