Steps:

  • Using kitchen scissors, cut feathers and 12 wattles from fruit rolls. Cut three circus peanuts crosswise in half. Cut 24 turkey feet from remaining circus peanuts., Reserve 12 butterscotch chips for beaks. In a microwave, melt 1/2 cup of the remaining chips; stir until smooth. Using melted chips, attach two candy eyeballs, a wattle and a beak to each chocolate-covered thin mint to make turkey heads., Place a pretzel on a waxed paper-lined microwave-safe plate. Place a chocolate kiss in each of the three holes. Microwave on high for 15-20 seconds or until melted. While still warm, arrange feathers in a fan shape over pretzel, pressing gently into melted chocolate to adhere. Repeat with remaining pretzels and kisses., Melt remaining butterscotch chips. Using melted chips, attach a vanilla wafer to each pretzel for body; attach heads. Attach circus peanut pieces for feet. Let stand until set.

Steps:

  • Pierce the sweet potatoes all over with a fork. Microwave until tender, about 10 minutes; cover and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, spread the pretzel crumbs in a shallow dish. Season the turkey with 1 teaspoon paprika, 1/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper. Brush 1 side of the cutlets with 1 tablespoon mustard and sprinkle with the thyme, then press into the pretzels to coat.
  • Heat 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of the turkey, pretzel-side down; cook until golden brown, 2 minutes. Flip and cook until just cooked through, 1 more minute. Transfer to a plate. Wipe out the skillet; add the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Repeat with the remaining cutlets.
  • Combine the butter, 1 tablespoon maple syrup and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon paprika in a bowl. Split the potatoes and top with the butter; fluff the flesh with a fork. Season with salt and top with the chives. Combine the remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup and 1 tablespoon mustard. Serve the turkey with the potatoes and maple mustard.

PRETZEL TREATS

These are perfect for school kids or that quick treat to take to a friend's house. I really like using the red-striped kiss on a pretzel at Christmas, topped with a red m&m.

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 170°F Set a number of bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels (one for each treat) in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, then top each pretzel with an unwrapped Hershey's Kiss or Hershey's Hug.
  • Bake for 4 to 6 minutes (the white chocolate will melt more quickly), until the chocolates feel soft when touched with a wooden spoon. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and quickly press an M&M's candy into the center of each Kiss.
  • Allow the treats to cool for a few minutes, then place them in the refrigerator to set, about 10 minutes. Place handfuls of the candies in clear plastic bags and tie on colorful ribbons.

1 Hershey chocolate kiss
1 candy, m&m
1 pretzel, round

  • Unwrap Reese’s Cups, this helps the process to go faster and the chocolate “glue” not to harden.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, heat chocolate chips in 30-second increments until chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • Use a spoon to transfer the melted chocolate to a zippered bag and cut the tip off for easy use (and less mess).
  • On a plate or parchment paper, start by putting some chocolate on the top of the Reese’s Cup and then attach the pretzel's narrow end onto the Reese’s.
