QUICK PUFF PASTRY APPLE STRUDEL

This is an easy apple strudel version with puff pastry that is ready in less than an hour. It tastes especially delicious fresh out of the oven with some vanilla ice cream.

Quick Puff Pastry Apple Strudel image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Combine apples, 3/4 cup sugar, raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon in a large bowl for the filling.
  • Dust a flat work surface lightly with flour. Unroll puff pastry and sprinkle lightly with flour. Roll out slightly and mark into 3 equal sections. Spoon filling into the central section then fold over the section on the left and brush with egg. Fold the right section on top, just like a letter. Make shallow diagonal cuts in the top layer of the apple strudel. Brush with egg and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until apple studel is puffed up and golden, 25 to 30 minutes.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place apples in a large bowl. Stir in brown sugar and golden raisins; set aside. Place puff pastry on baking sheet. Roll lightly with a rolling pin. Arrange apple filling down the middle of the pastry lengthwise. Fold the pastry lengthwise around the mixture. Seal edges of pastry by using a bit of water on your fingers, and rubbing the pastry edges together. Whisk egg and milk together, and brush onto top of pastry.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown.

Quick 'n Easy Strudel image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Unroll 1 can of crescent rolls. Press into bottom of greased 13x9-inch baking dish, without pressing seams together.
  • Breat cream cheese, 12/4 cup of the sugar and 1 teaspoons of the vanilla in medium bowl until smooth. Spread over crescent rolls. Misx pie filling, 1 teaspoons cinnamon and remaining 2 teaspoons vanilla. Gently spread over cheese mixture.
  • Unroll second can of crescent over fruit. Brush top with melted butter. Top with a mixture of remaining 1/4 cup of sugar, nuts and remaining 1 teaspoons cinnamon.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until dough is golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes. Serve warm.
  • SUBSTITUTION TIP: Substitute cherry pie filling with apple pie filling. Increase cinnamon used in fruit filling from 1 tsp to 2 teaspoons.

  • In a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Mix sugar, eggs and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a small bowl. Quickly stir into the flour mixture. Mix in approximately 1/2 the water. Knead into a soft, pliable dough, using more of the water as necessary.
  • Cover dough with a tea towel and allow to sit at least 1 hour while desired filling is prepared. To use, divide into two parts. Cover half the dough with plastic wrap while you roll out the other.
  • Carefully stretch the dough into paper thinness on a lightly floured surface (a clean cotton sheet is ideal) and lightly brush with remaining vegetable oil. Fill and bake as desired.

Steps:

  • Cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg yolks and vinegar, then water. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate at least one hour.
  • Divide dough in half. Roll each half into an oval on a lightly floured board.
  • To fill, make inch-long cuts along the long edges of the oval. Add the filling in a stripe along the center. Pull the snipped pieces over the middle, alternating sides. Press the dough strips together along the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Filling should be bubbly and crust should be lightly golden.

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Place raisins, water and extract in a large microwave-save bowl; microwave, uncovered, on high for 1-1/2 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes. Drain. Add apples, 1/3 cup sugar, flour and cinnamon; toss to combine., In a small bowl, mix melted butter and oil; remove 2 teaspoons mixture for brushing top. Place 1 sheet of phyllo dough on a work surface; brush lightly with some of the butter mixture. (Keep remaining remaining phyllo covered with a damp towel to prevent it from drying out.) Layer with 7 additional phyllo sheets, brushing each layer with some of the butter mixture. Spread apple mixture over phyllo to within 2 in. of 1 long side., Fold the short edges over filling. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting from the side with a 2-in. border. Transfer to a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Brush with reserved butter mixture; sprinkle with remaining sugar.
