OLD-WORLD CORNED BEEF AND VEGETABLES

Steps:
- In a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the potatoes, carrots and onions. Add beef; discard spice packet from corned beef or save for another use. Combine the water, marinade for chicken and pepper; pour over meat. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender., Remove meat and vegetables to a serving platter; keep warm. Skim fat from cooking juices; transfer to a small saucepan. Bring liquid to a boil. Combine cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Gradually stir into the pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Serve with meat and vegetables.

Steps:
- Mix potatoes, carrots and onions in 4- to 6-quart slow cooker.
- Thoroughly rinse corned beef; discard seasoning packet. Place beef on vegetables; sprinkle with pepper. Mix 1/2 cup water and the Worcestershire sauce; pour over beef.
- Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 9 hours or until beef and vegetables are tender.
- Remove beef and vegetables from slow cooker; cover to keep warm. Pour juices from slow cooker into 1-quart saucepan; heat to boiling. Mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth; stir into juices. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce has thickened. Serve sauce with beef and vegetables. Note: This recipe was tested in slow cookers with heating elements in the side and bottom of the cooker, not in cookers that stand only on a heated base. For slow cookers with just a heated base, follow the manufacturer's directions for layering ingredients and choosing a temperature.

SLOW COOKER CORNED BEEF
This slow cooker corned beef recipe is so easy, with basic ingredients, and it cooks on low for 7 hours. It is basic, but it is so very delicious. Hubby gave it 5 stars out of 5 and even my fussy 2-year-old ate it all. Hope you enjoy it! We ate this with roasted vegetables, and I topped mine with pickled mustard; my husband used gravy.

- peel and cut onion into quarters, add to slow cooker,.

- Preheat broiler. Line a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with a Reynolds® Slow Cooker Liner. Open slow cooker liner and place it inside a slow cooker bowl. Fit liner snugly against the bottom and sides of bowl; pull top of liner over rim of bowl.
- Place the potatoes and onion in the prepared slow cooker. Top with the brisket, apple juice, thyme, salt and pepper.
- Cook on low for 4 hours. Add the cabbage and apples to the slow cooker; cook on low for an additional 2 hours.
- While the corned beef cooks, place rye bread on a baking sheet lined with Reynolds Wrap® Foil. Spread bread with 2 tablespoons butter and broil 4 to 5 inches from heat 1 to 2 minutes or until toasted. Sprinkle with Gruyere cheese. Broil 1 to 2 minutes more or until cheese melts and browns.
- Carefully remove lid to allow steam to escape. Remove corned beef from slow cooker and thinly slice across the grain. Place on a large platter with the vegetables and apples, and drizzle with broth from the slow cooker to serve. Serve with rye bread cheese toasts. Do not lift or transport liner with food inside. Cool slow cooker completely; remove liner and toss.

- Pour 1 bottle Irish stout beer into a slow cooker.
- Rinse corned beef brisket and pat dry. Rub with brown sugar, including the bottom, and gently place brisket into the slow cooker with the stout beer.
- Arrange sweet potatoes, cabbage, onion, carrots, and red potatoes on and around the brisket in the slow cooker.

- In 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, mix carrots, potatoes and onion.
- If necessary, cut corned beef brisket to fit into slow cooker; place over vegetables. Add enough of the water to cover. If brisket is packaged with spice packet, add contents of spice packet and omit pepper, cloves and bay leaf. If not, add pepper, cloves and bay leaf.
- Cover; cook on Low setting 10 to 12 hours.
- Remove and discard bay leaf. Remove brisket from slow cooker; place on serving platter. Cut brisket into thin slices. With slotted spoon, place vegetables in serving bowl.
