Spicy Fish Fry image

Steps:

  • Cut the fish fillets into good size pieces.
  • Clean the pieces and dry them.
  • Soak the pieces in lime juice for about 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile grind the remaining ingredients (except rice flour and coloring) into fine paste.
  • Add the rice flour and food coloring to make a thick batter. add little water if necessary.
  • Put the fish in this batter so that they are immersed completely. Let is marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Heat Oil in a pan. Fry the fish until it gets browned on one side.
  • Turn over and brown the other side.
  • Drain any excess oil, garnish with finely chopped cliantro and serve.

1 inch gingerroot
3 garlic cloves
2 green chilies
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons cumin powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup rice flour
5 tablespoons lime juice
3 drops orange food coloring
1 bunch cilantro

Any fish suitable for frying can be used, especially sea-water fish. Spicy and absolutely delicious. Very fast, very easy, great for beginners.

Steps:

  • Place fish in a deep container/casserole.
  • Add all A-mixture ingredients to the fish. If the mixture feels too dry, add 2 - 3 tablespoons of filtered water.
  • Heat pan or wok. Pour in the oil and wait till it is really hot.
  • Place fish 2 pieces at a time (for smaller fish, you may be able to place 3 pieces at one time).
  • When the fish become golden brown, turn the other side till they're golden brown on both sides.
  • Take out from pan or wok onto serving plate.
  • Great when served with rice.

2 tablespoons black-pepper seasoning
1 tablespoon fish curry powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust according to taste)

I found this on the Internet at Fishermansexpress.com but haven't tried it yet. There was no amount given for the flour but I would think a cup should be sufficient. I also think the amounts given for the spices is a little sparse, at least for my palette, so I added "to taste" since what one person thinks is spicy may differ from another person.

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except flour; blend well.
  • Cut fish into thin strips.
  • Roll fish in flour; shake off excess.
  • Dip in egg batter, then roll in flour again and shake off excess.
  • Fry in moderately hot oil until golden brown. If oil is too hot, batter will burn.
