CHEESY FRENCH BREAD

This is a little different from the usual Garlic French breads I've tried. I served this to my daughter for her 28th birthday dinner tonight. I changed the original recipe up some to fit our taste buds. Original recipe from Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons, Too cookbook.

Cheesy French Bread image

Steps:

  • Combine the cheese, mayonnaise, Italian Seasoning, garlic powder and ground red pepper.
  • Spread this mixture on the cut sides of the bread.
  • Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is melted and lightly browned.

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (will probably work with any of your favorite cheeses) or 2 cups Mexican blend cheese (will probably work with any of your favorite cheeses)
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoons italian seasoning (or 1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (feel free to use cloves of fresh garlic minced)
1 dash ground red pepper
French bread, cut in half lengthwise

Steps:

  • Trim top and side crusts from bread, leaving bottom crust intact.
  • Make diagonal cuts, 1 inch thick, through the bread but not through the bottom.
  • Combine all remaining ingredients.
  • Spread half the butter mixture between bread slices.
  • Use remaining mixture to frost top and sides of bread.
  • Place bread in foil boat; cover loosely with another sheet of foil.
  • Bake at 425°F for 20-30 minutes.
  • For last 5 minutes, remove foil to allow bread to brown.

SWISS BREAD

This is really, really excellent, but like everything that is excellent it is extremely bad for you. I think you can actually hear your arteries clogging, but it is soooo worth it!!!! I save this for once, maybe twice a year. Please note that I am saying 12 slices of cheese, but the more cuts you make, the more cheese you can use. This stuff is heavenly--I hope you enjoy!

Steps:

  • Slice french bread on the diagonal, 3/4 of the way through the bread. Make sure that you do not cut all the way through the bottom of the bread.
  • Place one slice of cheese in each slice of bread.
  • Mix remaining ingredients together and spread evenly over top of bread.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200F (for bread slices).
  • Mix flour and garlic powder in shallow dish. Add chicken one piece at a time, dredging to coat.
  • Place oil in skillet and heat to medium temperature. Add chicken and cook about 10 minutes, turning once, or until brown on all sides.
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 10 minutes or until juices from chicken run clear. Remove chicken from skillet.
  • Add butter to skillet; add mushrooms and saute over low heat about 3 minutes. Push mushrooms to side; add wine and stir to loosen brown bits. Add pepper.
  • Return chicken to fry pan and simmer, uncovered, about 10 minutes or until sauce is slightly thickened.
  • Place slices of bread on baking sheet in single layer. Place slice of cheese on each slice of bread. Place in 200F oven until cheese is melted.
  • Place chicken and mushroom mixture on top of bread slices and serve.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together tuna, mayo, sour cream, and garlic powder. Spread the mixture over the french bread that has been cut in half.
