RED WINE SANGRIA

For a festive gathering, mix a pitcher of Bobby Flay's Red Wine Sangria featuring pomegranates and blackberries, from Boy Meets Grill on Food Network.

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together and let stand in a tightly sealed container or pitcher for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator before serving.

2 bottles red Spanish table wine
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup triple sec
1 cup orange juice
1 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup simple syrup, or more to taste (equal parts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, cooled)
Orange slices
Apple slices
Blackberries
Pomegranate seeds

BOOZY RED SANGRIA

Strawberries and citrus are macerated with sugar, orange liqueur, and vodka or tequila, then finished with red wine and seltzer for an extra-spirited sangria.

Steps:

  • Toss fresh fruits with sugar, vodka, and Cointreau. Cover; refrigerate, tossing occasionally, at least 4 hours and up to 1 day. Fill a glass halfway with frozen fruit, if desired. Add macerated fruits, and top with wine and a splash of seltzer, if desired.

1 small grapefruit, quartered and thinly sliced (1 cup)
1 lime, quartered and thinly sliced (1/4 cup)
2 cups hulled and halved strawberries (quartered, if large)
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup vodka or blanco tequila
1/4 cup Cointreau or other orange liqueur
Frozen fruit, for serving (optional)
1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine, chilled, for serving
Seltzer or citrus soda, for serving (optional)

GRILLED STONE FRUIT SANGRIA

Sangria doesn't have to be a sugary mess. Grilled stone fruit adds a natural caramelized sweetness to this refreshing drink.

Grilled Stone Fruit Sangria image

Steps:

  • Prepare a grill or grill pan for medium heat; oil grates. Grill peach, plum, and nectarine halves, flipping once, until lightly charred and tender, 8-10 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board and let cool, then cut into 1" chunks.
  • Muddle grilled fruit and 6 halved cherries in a large pitcher with a wooden spoon. Top with wine, orange juice, brandy, and simple syrup; stir to incorporate. Chill at least 1 hour.
  • Fill glasses with ice. Add sangria and muddled fruit and top each with a cherry.

  • Combine citrus slices and other firm fruits in a large, nonreactive container. Add wine, liqueur, brandy, and lemon verbena. Cover and refrigerate overnight (or up to 3 days). When ready to serve, put some soft fruits into each wine glass and fill two-thirds full with the Sangria. Top off with a splash of club soda.
