TEXAS SHEET CAKE

This chocolaty delight was one of my favorites growing up. The Texas sheet cake is so moist and the icing so sweet that everyone who samples it wants a copy of the recipe. -Susan Ormond, Jamestown, North Carolina

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, bring the butter, water and cocoa to a boil. Remove from the heat. Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt; add to cocoa mixture. Stir in the sour cream until smooth. , Pour into a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean., In a small saucepan, melt butter; add milk and cocoa. Bring to a boil. Remove from the heat. Whisk in confectioners' sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour over warm cake. Cool completely on a wire rack.

I have made this recipe for years. My children always chose it for their birthday cake over any other, and it makes enough for a crowd. Moist and delicious. Very easy to make. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10x15 inch pan.
  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Beat in the sour cream and eggs. Set aside. Melt the butter on low in a saucepan, add the water and 5 tablespoons cocoa. Bring mixture to a boil then remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly, then stir cocoa mixture into the egg mixture, mixing until blended.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • For the icing: In a large saucepan, combine the milk, 5 tablespoons cocoa and 1/2 cup butter. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in the confectioners' sugar and vanilla, then fold in the nuts, mixing until blended. Spread frosting over warm cake.

Michigan Maple Peanut Butter Sheet Cake image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease and flour the bottom of a 15x20-inch rimmed baking sheet or jelly roll pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  • Sift white sugar and flour together in a bowl.
  • Combine hot water, creamy peanut butter, and 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
  • Blend yogurt, eggs, and baking soda together in a bowl. Pour peanut butter mixture into egg mixture in a steady stream, stirring constantly. Mix flour mixture into peanut butter mixture until batter is combined. Spread batter into prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the center of the cake springs back when touched lightly with a fingertip, about 20 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
  • Combine chunky peanut butter, 1/2 cup butter, and 6 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low; stir in confectioners' sugar and maple syrup until sugar dissolves and frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over warm cake. Sprinkle walnuts, pecans, and almonds over the top; cool completely.
  • Stir cream cheese, 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar, and 1 tablespoon milk together in a bowl until smooth; add almond extract. Fold whipped topping into cream cheese mixture until frosting is creamy and runny. Drizzle cream cheese frosting over the top of cooled cake.

Steps:

  • Boil butter and water in small saucepan.
  • Cream eggs, sugar, and sour cream in mixer or large mixing bowl.
  • In separate bowl combine dry ingredients.
  • Start alternating the butter/water mixture and dry mixture into the egg/sugar mixture.
  • Add maple flavoring and mix well.
  • Pour into greased 15x10 pan.
  • Bake at 350°F for 22 minutes or until tested done in center.
  • While cake is baking, start on Icing.
  • Boil butter and milk in small saucepan. Remove from heat and add sugar and maple flavoring. Mix until smooth.
  • Fold in walnuts.
  • Pour onto cake about 5 minutes after coming out of the oven.
  • Enjoy warm or cold!

Steps:

  • For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F; butter the bottom and sides of a 15 1/2-by-10 1/2-inch jelly roll pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl until combined. Whisk the sour cream, vanilla and eggs in a medium bowl or large liquid measuring cup until smooth. Set aside.
  • Meanwhile, add the butter, cocoa powder and 1 cup water to a medium saucepan and set over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter is completely melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour the melted butter mixture into the flour mixture and stir until combined. Stir in the sour cream mixture in 2 additions until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Transfer to a rack and let cool slightly in the pan.
  • For the frosting: Combine the pecans, butter and salt in a medium saucepan and place over medium heat. Cook until the butter is melted and the pecans are lightly toasted, about 5 minutes. Stir in the cocoa powder and vanilla and remove from the heat. Whisk in the confectioners' sugar in 2 batches, alternating with the milk and mixing well after each addition.
  • Immediately pour the warm frosting over the warm cake and gently spread to cover. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
