NUTELLA & BANANA POCKETS

Who knew you could use pizza dough to make dessert? Whether you use store-bought dough or make it from scratch, these sweet stuffed buns are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Nutella & Banana Pockets image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Dust surface lightly with flour. Divide dough into 8 balls; roll into 4-inch rounds. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet. Let stand, draped with plastic, in a warm place until they double in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Lightly brush with egg. Bake until golden, about 8 minutes. Let cool slightly. Use a knife to slice pita-like pockets; stuff each with 1 tablespoon Nutella and 4 slices banana. Serve immediately.

Unbleached all-purpose flour, for dusting
1 pound room-temperature Quick Basic Pizza Dough
1 egg, beaten, for egg wash
1/2 cup Nutella
32 banana slices

With melted Nutella, warmed bananas and a cinnamon-flavored custard coating, this French toast is indulgent and impressive--but secretly very easy to make.

Banana and Nutella Stuffed French Toast image

Steps:

  • Using a sharp paring knife, cut a 3-inch-wide slit into one side of each bread slice, cutting about three-quarters of the way through to make a pocket.
  • Spread 1/2 tablespoon of the chocolate-hazelnut spread inside each pocket and then layer in 3 to 4 banana slices.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough butter to liberally coat the bottom. Heat until hot, but not smoking.
  • Meanwhile, whisk together the cream, eggs, sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Soak each stuffed bread slice into the custard and, working in batches, fry in a single layer until the custard is fully cooked, about 3 minutes per side.
  • Top the French toast with additional banana slices and serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Eight 1-inch-thick slices challah or brioche
1/4 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread, such as Nutella®
2 ripe bananas, sliced, plus more for serving
3/4 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Butter, for frying
Pure maple syrup, for serving
