Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Fill a large bowl with ice water; generously salt the water.
  • Add the green beans to the boiling water and cook until bright green and just tender, 4 to 6 minutes. Drain and transfer to the ice water to cool completely. Drain again and transfer to a paper towel-lined baking sheet; pat dry.
  • Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large wide pot over medium-high heat. Add the shallots, season with salt and cook, stirring, until slightly softened, 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add the green beans to the pot; season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, until hot, 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from the heat and add 1 tablespoon water and the remaining 1 tablespoon butter; stir to coat.

Kosher salt
2 pounds green beans, trimmed
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 medium shallots, sliced

Steps:

  • Put the frozen green beans in a large bowl of water and let them thaw quickly. Drain well in a colander. Over medium high heat in a heavy large skillet (cast iron preferred), melt the butter then add the olive oil. Add the green beans and toss with tongs. Combine the salt, pepper, minced onions and Old Bay seasoning in a small bowl and sprinkle over the green beans. Toss and coat with the seasonings. Cook about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low, cover with a lid, and let them simmer/cook another 20 minutes. Toss a couple of times with the tongs. Turn off heat and let the beans steam about 10 minutes. Ready to serve!

7 cups frozen whole green beans (I used organic.)
(Note: You could use frozen Italian green beans or fresh~~I do NOT recommend canned green beans.)
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon coarse ground pepper
2 tablespoons dried minced onions
2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
