  • Mix all ingredients, except chocolate chips, until well mixed (If too soft to work with: add a little more powdered milk and oats).
  • Spread evenly on a cookie sheet.
  • Sprinkle with chocolate chips or seeds.
  • Cut into squares.
  • Freeze for 20 minutes, then store in airtight container in the refrigerator.

Peanut Butter Snack Bars image

Steps:

  • Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Spread chocolate evenly over prepared baking dish.
  • Toast oats, wheat germ, and flax seed in a non-stick skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently until oats are lightly golden and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Transfer oat mixture to a large bowl and stir in crispy rice cereal, cornflake crumbs, almonds, and salt.
  • Heat honey, peanut butter, brown sugar, agave nectar, canola oil, and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir until mixture begins to bubble, 3 to 5 minutes. These are very rich so you will want to cut them in small pieces. They keep well (if no one eats them first!) either in the fridge or the freezer. I've seen other recipes for these but I find that this method works the best at making them smooth and creamy. The original recipe calls for walnuts so I have put them in here but I never use them. My great aunt and my mother made these often, also without the nuts. We like to use the coloured marshmallows because they look prettier. They have always been favourites with the kids (of all ages!). NOTE: preparation time includes cooling time
