Steps:

  • For the lemon grass syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, chopped lemon grass and 1/2 cup water. Place over medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat and strain syrup, discarding lemon grass. Allow to cool. (May be covered and refrigerated.)
  • For the rosemary-infused apple juice: In a blender, combine apple juice and rosemary. Blend for 10 seconds. Pour mixture through a fine strainer, discarding solids, and set aside.
  • For the sangria: In a pitcher, combine albariño, sake, lemon juice and club soda. Add the rosemary-infused apple juice and 3 ounces lemon grass syrup; mix well. Garnish and serve straight up or over ice.

Float slices of lemon, orange and lime, and maraschino cherries in the mixture. Refrigerate overnight for best flavor. For a fizzy sangria, add club soda just before serving.

SHEILA'S PERFECT SANGRIA

I've been looking for a good sangria recipe for some time. I checked out several recipes, combined the best of everything and came up with the perfect mix that would easily rival my favorite local lounge's sangria! Measurements are approximate and to taste but don't scrimp on any of the flavors. Add more juice or rum until it knocks your socks off....then it's your perfect sangria.

Steps:

  • Place the oranges, lemons, limes, pear, kiwi, strawberries, pineapple chunks and juice, and white sugar into a large bowl. Pour the Cointreau, white rum, coconut-flavored rum, and orange juice over the fruit. Stir gently to dissolve the sugar. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Add the red wine, pink lemonade concentrate, lemon juice, and lime juice. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours, or overnight.
  • Before serving, add the chilled lemon-lime soda. Serve over ice, spooning the fruit into the glass with the liquid. Garnish with an orange slice or maraschino cherries.

CLASSIC SPANISH SANGRIA

This is an authentic version of the popular wine drink. You can add any fruit that you want, but I find that apples and pears absorb all the rum. This one is not diluted with carbonated beverages. I have much success with red Burgundy wine and white rum, though spiced rum is nice too.

  • Wash and slice the fruit to your liking. I recommend slicing the grapes in half, and other fruits into cubes or thin slices.
  • Place all the fruit into a large bowl and cover with the sugar. Stir gently. Leave to macerate for at least five minutes, but longer if you have the time (overnight would be perfect). Stir again if needed until almost all of the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add this entire mixture to a large pitcher filled 3/4 of the way with your white wine. Mix together gently with a wooden spoon.
