SUPER EASY STIR-FRIED CABBAGE

A very simple stir-fry dish. The reason for using only soya sauce for stir-frying cabbage is that it brings out the natural sweetness in the cabbage itself.

Steps:

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the garlic, and cook for a few seconds until it begins to brown. Stir in the cabbage until it is coated in oil; cover the wok, and cook for 1 minute. Pour in the soy sauce, and cook and stir for another minute. Increase the heat to high, and stir in the Chinese cooking wine. Cook and stir until the cabbage is tender, about 2 minutes more.

Steps:

  • I'm adding a note to this recipe. The cabbage leaves need to be soft enough to roll for this recipe to work. One way to achieve this, is to wash the cabbage, freeze while still damp, then thaw and steam slightly. I like to defrost them in the microwave.
  • Combine pork, beef, rice, garlic, onion, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, ginger, salt and pepper; mix well.
  • Spoon about 1/2 cup meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf.
  • Fold in sides; then starting at an unfolded edge, roll up completely to enclose filling.
  • Place rolls seam side down, in a greased 13 inch x 9 inch baking dish.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sauce ingredients; heat and stir until sugar is melted and sauce is hot.
  • Pour over rolls.
  • Cover and bake at 3oo degrees for 2 - 21/2 hours.

2 heads softened cabbage leaves
2 lbs uncooked ground pork
1 lb uncooked ground beef
3 cups uncooked instant rice
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons soy sauce
4 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 cup chili sauce
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce

ORIENTAL CABBAGE

This is a crowd pleaser, family favorite receipe that was shared with me by a friend who's sister in law was Chinese. It didn't have a name and I changed a few things but it is a crowd pleaser that is often requested. It is easy to prepare and stores refrigerated for at least a week. It is an all in one meal with a vegetable, starch and protein. Add a side salad and enjoy.

10 CHINESE CABBAGE (BOK CHOY AND NAPA CABBAGE) RECIPES

From thespruceeats.com
Author Rhonda Parkinson
  • Stir-fry Baby Bok Choy. Bok choy is the most well-known type of Chinese cabbage, with its “spoon shaped” green leaves and white stalks that are similar to celery.
  • Bok Choy Chicken Soup. Tender leaves of bok choy are simmered with soy sauce and other seasonings in this simple, nourishing soup. Feel free to experiment with the basic recipe, adding other ingredients as desired.
  • Roasted Bok Choy. As with many other vegetables, bok choy becomes rich and nutty when roasted in a hot oven. This recipe kicks up the flavor level a notch with a homemade Asian vinaigrette made of soy sauce, sesame oil, and vinegar.
  • Spicy Stir-fry Chinese Cabbage. Napa cabbage (also called by its Chinese name, sui choy) is stir-fried with chili paste and fresh garlic and then finished with rice wine or dry sherry and a bit of sugar.
  • Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. Bok choy and wheat noodles are the perfect finishing touch to Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Considered the national dish of Taiwan, this flavorful soup can easily become a favorite in your house too.
  • Panfried Potstickers. Chinese cabbage is used in the filling of numerous Chinese dumpling recipes. Here, Napa cabbage is paired with ground pork, green onion, and Asian seasonings in this recipe for potstickers dumplings—those tasty dumplings that are pan-fried on one side and then steamed.
  • Cabbage With Chinese Sausage. This dish pairs cabbage with sweet and savory Chinese sausage (lop cheong). Both the Chinese sausage and hot bean paste used in this recipe are sold in Asian markets.
  • Lion's Head Meatballs. This is the classic Shanghai dish, with oversized meatballs representing the lion, and shredded greens (bok choy or Napa cabbage are fine) to represent the mane, cooked in a nourishing broth.
  • Shrimp Stir-fry with Chinese Greens. Shrimp is paired with bok choy and mushrooms in this easy stir-fry. The recipe calls for fresh mushrooms, but feel free to use Chinese dried mushrooms if desired.
  • Beef Lo Mein. A popular dish on Chinese restaurant menus, egg noodles, and shredded cabbage soak up the sauce in this nourishing noodle dish. What Is Bok Choy?
